Additional information

Süinbai Aronov (1815–1898) was one of the foremost aqyns — improvising oral poets — of the Kazakh steppe tradition, and his inclusion in Kazakhstan's commemorative gold program reflects the post-Soviet effort to canonize figures of pre-Russian cultural life. The series of which this coin is part has drawn occasional criticism for favoring legendary or semi-legendary figures whose biographical details remain contested by historians.
