| 正面描述 | At center, the emblem of the Republic of Kazakhstan — a stylized sun rising above a steppe eagle with outstretched wings, flanked by ornamental Kazakh floral scrollwork motifs on either side. The denomination '500' appears prominently in the lower center of the field, with 'ТЕҢГЕ' inscribed immediately below. The bilingual legend 'ҚАЗАҚСТАН РЕСПУБЛИКАСЫ' arcs along the upper left and 'РЕСПУБЛИКА КАЗАХСТАН' along the upper right, both in Cyrillic script. |

Shoqan Wälikhanov — explorer, ethnographer, and Russian Imperial Army officer — died in 1865 at roughly 29 years old, having spent the bulk of his short career documenting Central Asian geography and culture at a time when the region remained largely unmapped by outside observers. His 1858–59 journey to Kashgar, disguised as a merchant, produced intelligence the Russian military considered operationally significant.
Kazakhstan's bullion and commemorative gold program accelerated sharply after 2010, with the National Bank issuing numerous single-subject biographical pieces. The KM#423 designation places this squarely within that run.
