Obverse description The national emblem of Kazakhstan, depicting a shanyrak (the crown of a yurt) with sun rays and mythical horses, is centrally positioned within a decorative star-shaped frame. The emblem is surrounded by the legend ҚАЗАҚСТАН ҰЛТТЫҚ БАНКІ (National Bank of Kazakhstan) in Kazakh script, arcing around the upper portion of the field. The lower portion of the field bears the denomination 500 ТЕҢГЕ in large numerals, flanked by the specifications ©31,1гр. and Ag 925. A beaded border runs along the coin's periphery.

Reverse description The official emblem of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) occupies the central field, depicting a stylised globe with a map of the member states' territories and a flowing wave motif below, symbolising unity and cooperation. Flanking the central emblem are two laurel branches in relief. The curved legend ШАНХАЙ ЫНТЫМАҚТАСТЫҚ ҰЙЫМЫНА 10 ЖЫЛ (10 Years of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation) arcs along the upper periphery in Kazakh, with the Chinese inscription 上海合作組織 (Shanghai Cooperation Organisation) appearing across the upper field. The legend Шанхайская Организация Сотрудничества in Russian script appears across the lower central field, and the commemorative dates ·2001-2011· are inscribed along the lower periphery.
