The "Roly-Poly" coin is part of Kazakhstan's ongoing series of novelty bullion issues that the National Bank began producing in the late 2000s to attract collector interest beyond conventional numismatic markets. This particular piece was designed to physically rock and right itself when tilted, achieved through an asymmetrically weighted planchet — the base is thicker and denser than the walls, shifting the center of mass low enough to produce the self-righting effect without altering the nominal weight specification.

The mechanism is borrowed directly from the children's toy of the same name, widely known across the former Soviet republics.
