500 Tenge Poppy

Kazakhstan's poppy coinage series drew on the country's position within one of Central Asia's most botanically diverse steppe regions, where wild Papaver species have been documented by Russian botanical expeditions since the nineteenth century. The 2010 issue was part of a broader numismatic program the National Bank used aggressively during this period to court international collector markets, producing themed wildlife and flora series in relatively small mintages.

KM#180 is among the more restrained entries in what became an increasingly elaborate series.
