Kazakhstan's "Myths" bullion series, launched in the mid-2000s, drew on Kazakh oral epic tradition — a body of literature called the zhyrau, passed through generations of steppe poets long before it was ever written down. This particular issue references that tradition rather than any single codified text, which is characteristic of how the National Bank approached the series: loosely thematic, culturally assertive, and aimed squarely at the collector export market during Kazakhstan's post-independence push to project cultural identity through its commemorative program.
