The "Betashar" (Беташар) is a traditional Kazakh wedding ritual in which a bride's veil is lifted for the first time before her new family — a ceremony accompanied by song, with the lyrics instructing her in her duties as a wife. This coin belongs to Kazakhstan's ongoing series documenting pre-Islamic and syncretic folk traditions that survived Soviet-era suppression and were actively recovered as part of post-independence cultural reconstruction after 1991.
