| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central field features the state coat of arms of Kazakhstan — a circular emblem depicting a shanyrak (the crown of a yurt) flanked by mythical winged horses (tulpars) against a rising sun, set within a decorative star-shaped ornamental surround with radiating geometric rays. The denomination '500' and the currency name 'ТЕҢГЕ' appear prominently in the lower field, with the weight '31,1 gr.' and fineness 'Ag 925' inscribed to the left. The circular legend 'ҚАЗАҚСТАН ҰЛТТЫҚ БАНКІ' runs along the upper periphery in Cyrillic script, and a beaded border frames the entire design. |

Issued to mark the tenth anniversary of Astana as Kazakhstan's capital — a city relocated from Almaty in 1997 under Nursultan Nazarbayev's directive to shift the national center of gravity northward, partly to anchor Kazakh state presence in a region with a large ethnic Russian population. The move was controversial domestically and widely skeptical abroad, but the new capital grew with startling speed.
The 2008 date places this coin in a year when Astana's construction boom was still accelerating, funded substantially by oil revenues.
