| Additional information |
Alpamys Batyr is the central hero of a Kazakh oral epic of the same name, one of the oldest surviving narratives in the Turkic literary tradition — predating its written transcription by centuries of bardic transmission. The 2009 issue belongs to Kazakhstan's ongoing commemorative program celebrating figures and traditions of the steppe, a series that accelerated sharply in the years following the country's 1991 independence as part of a deliberate effort to codify national cultural identity through official coinage.
