The denomination 500 TEŃGE is inscribed at the bottom of the field, while the fineness mark Ag 925 appears to the lower left and the weight indication 24 g to the lower right. |

Ahmet Baitursynuly was a Kazakh poet, linguist, and educator who reformed the Arabic-script alphabet for the Kazakh language in the early twentieth century — work that briefly gave the Kazakh people a standardized written form before Soviet authorities suppressed it, shifted the script to Latin, then Cyrillic, and ultimately arrested Baitursynuly in 1937. He was shot that same year. Rehabilitated posthumously during the glasnost period, he is now treated as a foundational figure in Kazakh national culture.
Kazakhstan began issuing commemorative silver pieces honoring rehabilitated Soviet-era figures in earnest after independence, and this 2022 issue marks the sesquicentennial of his birth.
