500 Tenge 70 Years of the Victory

Issued to mark the 70th anniversary of the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany, this coin belongs to a commemorative program Kazakhstan shares with most former Soviet republics — each producing their own issues for the same milestone. Kazakhstan lost an estimated 600,000 soldiers in the Second World War, a figure representing roughly a quarter of its male population at the time, drawn largely into Central Asian rifle divisions that suffered catastrophic casualties on the Eastern Front.
