Ghana's "Egyptian Navigators" issue belongs to a wave of thematic silver coins produced for the international collector market in the early 2000s, when a number of smaller Commonwealth nations licensed their sovereignty to generate revenue through numismatic programs largely designed and distributed by European marketing firms. The coins had no meaningful circulation in Ghana itself.
