| Reverse description | Central composition depicts a vividly colored rooster perched atop a traditional tiled rooftop, rendered in full polychrome with rich red, orange, and black plumage. The bird faces right with head raised in a crowing posture, set against a deep crimson field with a stylized golden sun disk at the right. An engraved flowering branch with leaves occupies the left portion of the field. The legend YEAR OF THE ROOSTER appears in decorative lettering across the upper left, while two Chinese characters for rooster are inscribed in the upper right field. |

| Additional information |
Tanzania's "Year of the Rooster" issues belong to a wave of Chinese lunar-themed silver coins struck by African and Pacific island mints beginning in the 2000s — sovereign in name, but produced almost entirely for the Chinese collector export market. The Bank of Tanzania has no functional relationship to the series beyond licensing its authority; the coins were almost certainly struck by a private European or Asian mint under contract.
The rectangular format accounts for the non-circular dimensions.
