正面描述 The coat of arms of Kenya occupies the central field, featuring two rampant lions as supporters flanking a traditional Maasai shield charged with a cockerel, with crossed spears behind the shield. Below the shield, a scroll bears the national motto HARAMBEE. The denomination 500 and the legend FIVE HUNDRED SHILLINGS appear in the lower field, while the commemorative legend curves around the upper periphery and along both sides, marking the 25th anniversary of Kenyan independence.

附加信息

Kenya's 1988 independence commemoratives were issued during Daniel arap Moi's consolidation of single-party rule under KANU, a period when Kenya had formally banned opposition parties by constitutional amendment in 1982. The Central Bank issued this silver piece into a climate of significant political repression — Moi had just survived a coup attempt and was midway through purging perceived dissidents from government.

KM#25 was struck to .925 fineness at the Royal Mint, which retained the contract for Kenyan commemorative coinage well into this period.
