The Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union Nikolay Kuznetsov served as commander of the Soviet Navy through the entirety of World War II, overseeing operations from the Baltic to the Pacific. His postwar career ended abruptly when Khrushchev demoted him to vice admiral in 1956 following a political dispute — a rank reduction without precedent for an officer of his standing. He was posthumously restored to his full rank in 1988.
Tanzania's commemorative program has issued silver pieces honoring Soviet and Russian naval figures with some regularity, largely targeting the collector export market rather than domestic circulation.
