| Obverse description | The obverse is dominated by an intaglio portrait of Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, the First President of Kenya, positioned left of centre against a multicolour guilloche underprint in green, red, and orange tones. The Kenyan coat of arms appears to the right of the portrait, with denomination numerals in red at upper left and lower right corners. Inscriptions in both Swahili and English identify the issuing authority across the top, with the legal tender clause and Swahili denomination text 'SHILINGI MIA TANO' printed in the central field along with signature lines for the Governor and Member of the Board of Directors. |
