Obverse description The Tanzanian national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a vertically oriented shield supported by two human figures — a warrior to the left and a woman to the right — each standing on a decorative base with foliage. The shield bears the traditional Tanzanian heraldic imagery including an axe and hoe, a flaming torch, and wavy lines representing the sea. A ribbon below the supporters carries the national motto UHURU NA UMOJA in the field. The legend TANZANIA arcs along the upper periphery in large capital letters, with the date 1998 positioned at the base of the design.
