Obverse description The obverse features the denomination '500 SCHILLING' prominently displayed in the central field, surrounded by a circular arrangement of nine provincial coats of arms of the Austrian federal states, with the double-headed eagle of Vienna positioned at the top center. The legend 'REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH' is inscribed along the outer border, reading around the circumference. The shields are rendered in fine relief, each representing a distinct Austrian province, and are evenly spaced to form a decorative ring around the central numeral. The overall design, engraved by Edwin Grienauer, reflects the heraldic tradition characteristic of Austrian commemorative coinage.
