The Rosenburg, a Renaissance castle in Lower Austria's Kamptal valley, had fallen into severe disrepair by the mid-twentieth century before being restored by the Hoyos family across several decades. Austria's late-1990s silver commemorative program frequently drew on architectural subjects that had benefited from private restoration efforts, giving institutional weight to what were otherwise personal preservation projects.
The .925 standard used here was Austria's established fineness for commemorative issues of this period, consistent across the series rather than chosen for this coin specifically.
