| Obverse description | A waltzing couple in period Biedermeier costume occupies the centre of the field, the gentleman clasping his partner as her full skirt sweeps dramatically to the right, evoking the golden age of Viennese ballroom culture. In the right middle ground, a decorative monument or fountain bearing a small standing figure of a violinist provides architectural depth. Three horizontal lines in the lower field suggest a stylised stage or dance floor. The curved legend REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH arcs along the upper rim, while the denomination 500 SCHILLING and the date 1999 are inscribed along the lower rim. The engraver's signature H. WÄHNER appears discreetly in the right-centre field. |
