| Beschrijving voorzijde | Plain cream paper note of simple typeset design, with the header inscription ALAT PEMBAJAР / Berlaku dalam Kabupaten Nias at top. The central denomination R 500.- is printed in large bold letterpress, flanked by a handwritten serial number in red ink and the suffix Bp. at right. Lower portion carries the issuing authority text Pemegang Kas Kabupaten Nias, the decree reference Ketetapan Bupati Nias tanggal 12 November 1949 No. 142-1949, and an official ink stamp impression together with a manuscript signature. |

Nias is an island off the west coast of Sumatra, and in 1949 it was administratively isolated enough that the regional treasury — not Bank Indonesia, not the Dutch colonial apparatus — stepped in to issue its own emergency currency. This was the chaotic tail end of the Indonesian National Revolution, when central monetary authority had effectively collapsed across much of the outer archipelago, and local regencies were left to improvise.
The Pemegang Kas Kabupaten Nias issues are among the most geographically obscure emergency notes from the revolutionary period. Very few saw circulation beyond the island itself.
