| Obverse description | Central effigy of Pope Francis depicted in a forward-facing portrait, wearing his white zucchetto and clerical collar, set within an ornate floral and foliate decorative inner border. The surrounding legend, reading clockwise from the upper left in Tamil and Sinhala scripts, commemorates the papal visit to Sri Lanka, with the Latin inscription PAPAL VISIT SRI LANKA continuing the legend to the right. The lower portion of the outer legend reads JANUARY 2015 in Latin script, flanked by the dates 13-15 in Tamil and Sinhala, all separated by dotted intervals against a frosted field. |

| Additional information |
Pope Francis visited Sri Lanka in January 2015, his first stop on a two-nation Asian tour that also included the Philippines. The visit carried particular weight given Sri Lanka's recent emergence from a brutal 26-year civil war; Francis met with both Buddhist leaders and survivors of the conflict, and the canonization of Joseph Vaz — the first Sri Lankan saint — was the formal religious centerpiece of the trip.
The .925 silver specification places this squarely in the Crown-sized commemorative format common to Commonwealth-affiliated central banks issuing through the Pobjoy or Coin Invest Trust pipeline of the period.
