| Reverse description | The reverse depicts a humanistic scene of two Nepalese children in traditional dress: a standing girl offering food from a dish to a seated child, with several plates and vessels of food arranged before them, evoking themes of nourishment and child welfare. Above the central device, the UNICEF globe-and-laurel emblem is prominently displayed, with the legend 'unicef' inscribed beneath it. The upper field bears the arc inscription 'FOR THE CHILDREN OF THE WORLD', while the lower field carries the inscriptions 'NEPAL' to the left, 'RS. 500' to the right, and the date '1997' along the bottom, all within a beaded border. |

| Additional information |
Issued to mark the 50th anniversary of UNICEF, this coin was part of a coordinated global program in which dozens of national mints struck commemorative silver pieces under broadly similar mandates from their respective central banks. Nepal's participation reflected Birendra's government positioning the kingdom within international development frameworks — a delicate balance given the Maoist insurgency that had formally begun the previous year with the "People's War" declaration of February 1996.
