| Aversbeschreibung | The obverse features the royal cypher and regnal legend of King Birendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev in Devanagari script, arranged around a central circle containing a trishul (trident). Flanking the central device are paired Hindu symbols: a chakra (discus) and sankha (conch) at mid left and right respectively, a padma (lotus) and gada (mace) at lower left and right, and a chandra (crescent moon) and surya (sun) at upper left and right. The overall composition is framed by a beaded inner border, presenting the traditional Nepalese royal iconographic program in a formal, heraldic arrangement. |

| Reversbeschreibung | The reverse depicts two Himalayan Black Bears (Ursus thibetanus) in a mountainous landscape: one bear is shown prone or resting in the upper field against a stylised Himalayan mountain backdrop, while a second bear walks in profile to the right in the lower foreground amid sparse vegetation. The denomination appears in both Latin script (Rs. 500) to the left and Devanagari script (रू. ५००) to the right of the central design. Below the bears, the Gregorian year 1993 is inscribed centrally, with the Devanagari legend पाँच शय रूपैयाँ (Five Hundred Rupees) beneath it. The legend NEPAL appears at the top of the field and ENDANGERED WILDLIFE curves along the lower periphery, all framed by a beaded border. |

| Zusätzliche Informationen |
Nepal's wildlife conservation coinage of the early 1990s was issued partly in response to international pressure following the country's accession to CITES, with the Himalayan black bear among several species highlighted as facing serious habitat loss due to deforestation in the middle hill zones. The series was struck for the collector export market rather than domestic circulation — rupee-denominated silver coins of this value never meaningfully entered Nepali commerce.
Produced at a foreign mint on contract, likely the British Royal Mint or a European facility, under license from Nepal Rastra Bank during Birendra's reign.
