Descrizione del dritto	Portrait of Mr. Sookdeo Bissoondoyal (1908–1977) at left, set against a red and violet guilloche underprint with fine rosette patterns. The denomination "FIVE HUNDRED RUPEES" is inscribed in English at centre, with additional lettering in Tamil and Hindi below; a polymer window at right incorporates a colour-shifting dodo vignette. The Bank of Mauritius title and the Rs 500 numeral appear along the upper margin, with three facsimile signatures of the First Deputy Governor, Governor, and Second Deputy Governor below centre.

Descrizione del rovescio	Central vignette of the main building of the University of Mauritius, rendered in an engraved style and flanked by palm trees beneath a clouded sky. The polymer window at left repeats the dodo motif visible on the obverse, while the Bank of Mauritius title and Rs 500 denomination appear in the upper field against a multicolour guilloche background of interlocking geometric rosettes. A sign reading "UNIVERSITY OF MAURITIUS" is visible on the building facade, and the denomination Rs 500 is repeated in numeral form at lower left in an alternative script.
