The figures are executed in frosted silver relief against an elaborately gold-plated background of scrolling floral and foliate ornamentation in the manner of a gilded icon cover (riza). Cyrillic abbreviations for the names of Christ and the Mother of God appear in the upper corners in the Orthodox tradition. A gold-plated rectangular banner inscription along the lower edge reads БАРКАЛАБАЎСКАЯ, identifying the specific venerated icon. |
