Obverse description Central field displays the denomination ۵۰۰ (500) in large Eastern Arabic-Indic numerals, with the word ریال (Rials) inscribed below. The upper portion of the field bears the legend جمهوری اسلامی ایران (Islamic Republic of Iran) in Persian script, curving along the upper rim. Two stylised wheat or olive sprigs flank the central denomination, rising from the lower field on either side. The Solar Hijri year ۱۳۸۸ appears in the lower exergue.
