备注

The Banco de España's 1856 series was among the earliest issues following the institution's formal establishment under the Ley de Bancos of 1856, which consolidated the Banco Español de San Fernando and its provincial rivals into a single national institution. The 500 reales de vellón denomination was denominated in a currency already on borrowed time — Spain would abandon the real system entirely in 1864, replacing it with the escudo.

Surviving examples from this series are genuinely rare. The low volume of original production, combined with subsequent currency reforms that rendered the notes obsolete, meant most were returned and destroyed rather than accumulating in private hands.
