背面描述 The White Lion of Mortimer, one of the ten heraldic Queen's Beasts, depicted passant and supporting an escutcheon charged with a white rose en soleil — the badge of the House of York — rendered in high relief. The divided date '20 20' appears above the shield, flanking the beast, while the encircling legend names the beast. The engraver's initials 'JC' appear within the design. The composition reflects the broader Queen's Beasts bullion and proof coin series issued by the Royal Mint.

附加信息

The White Lion of Mortimer is one of ten heraldic beasts drawn from the 1953 coronation ceremony of Elizabeth II, where sculpted versions flanked the Queen's Champion at Westminster Abbey. The Queen's Beasts bullion and proof program, launched by the Royal Mint in 2016, worked through all ten figures across successive annual releases — the White Lion appearing in 2020 as the penultimate entry in the series.

The Mortimer connection runs through Roger Mortimer, 1st Earl of March, whose white lion device passed through the family line to Edward IV and eventually into the broader Yorkist heraldic tradition.
