Alderney's legal tender coins are issued under authority from the Royal Mint but produced commercially — this piece almost certainly came from a private mint under license, a common arrangement for the island's commemorative output. The Platinum Jubilee marked 70 years of Elizabeth II's reign, making her the longest-reigning British monarch on record. She died in September 2022, roughly four months after the jubilee celebrations concluded, meaning a significant portion of this issue's production run may have already been struck before her death transformed the commemorative into something closer to a memorial.
