The Lion of England was the first release in the Queen's Beasts series, which drew its designs from the ten heraldic supporters flanking the canopy at Elizabeth II's 1953 coronation. This kilogram piece sits at the top of the series' weight hierarchy and was struck in a mintage of just 325 examples — a figure set before demand was fully understood, which the Royal Mint would not repeat for subsequent beasts.
