(Translation: Elizabeth the Second by the Grace of God Queen Defender of the Faith)
Reverse description A deeply sculpted, high-relief composition by Paul Day commemorating the centenary of the Armistice of 11 November 1918. The central design depicts a solitary World War I infantryman in full kit — wearing a Brodie helmet and carrying a full pack — seated and bowed in a moment of exhausted reflection amid a desolate battlefield landscape. Barbed wire entanglements and the debris of war are visible in the middle ground to the right. The word ARMISTICE arcs along the upper left field in bold incuse lettering, while the legend THE GUNS FALL SILENT is inscribed in a stacked, hand-rendered style in the upper right quadrant; the engraver's initials PD appear at lower left.
