正面描述	The obverse is centred on an intaglio portrait of Dr. John Garang de Mabior (1945–2005), founding father of South Sudan, set against a fine multicolour guilloche underprint. A vertically oriented traditional Dinka warrior spear in intaglio relief appears to the right of the portrait. Denomination numerals occupy the corners, with the issuing authority inscription rendered in full above the central field.

The denomination is spelled out in full below the central field.
