| Obverse description | Central vignette shows a line of Vietnamese labourers in conical hats hauling ropes on an irrigation or construction site, with a traditional pavilion and bare tree to the left. The large red numeral 500 appears to the right of centre against a pale guilloche underprint, with the bank title BANQUE DE L'INDOCHINE in bold letterpress across the top and CINQ CENTS PIASTRES along the lower margin. Three facsimile signature panels for the Inspecteur Général, the Directeur de la Succursale de Saïgon, and the Caissier are printed to the left of the vignette, with the designer and printer credits at the lower corners. |

The Chinese bank title 東方匯理銀行 is printed across the top, and the Vietnamese text GIẤY NĂM TRĂM ĐỒNG VÀNG runs along the lower margin, all within a blue geometric border. |
