| Obverse description | The Bolivian national arms rendered as an intaglio vignette occupy the centre of the note, set against a multicolour guilloche underprint of interlocking pink and green rosettes. An intaglio portrait of Eduardo Avaroa, labelled 'AVAROA', is positioned within a decorative frame at the right, while an oval guilloche medallion occupies the left panel. Two manuscript signatures appear above the printed titles GERENTE and PRESIDENTE, with the authorising decree legend DECRETO SUPREMO DE 1o DE JUNIO DE 1981 inscribed below the arms. |

| Reverse description | The central vignette presents an intaglio view of the port of Antofagasta as it appeared in 1879, with warehouse buildings in the foreground, a coastal cliff rising behind, and sailing vessels visible on the horizon, captioned PUERTO DE ANTOFAGASTA, 1879. A large guilloche rosette bearing the numeral 500 fills the left panel, and an oval guilloche frame occupies the right. The printer's imprint of Thomas De La Rue and Company Limited appears at the foot of the central panel. |
