ATMA Uruguaya S.A. was a major printing firm based in Montevideo, and what is cataloged here is not a circulating banknote but a printer's specimen or archival proof sheet — the dimensions make that unambiguous. At 387 x 306 mm, this is an uncut or partial press sheet, not a finished single note trimmed for issue.
The 500 Pesos denomination places this squarely in the inflationary years that would eventually force Uruguay through multiple currency reforms, culminating in the 1975 introduction of the Nuevo Peso at a rate of 1,000 to one. ATMA supplied printing services to the Banco de la República Oriental del Uruguay during this period.
