The 500 Pesos / 50 Cóndores dual denomination reflects Chile's currency reform under the 1925 monetary law, which created the Cóndor as a unit equal to ten Pesos. The parallel valuation was printed on notes during the transitional period while Chileans adjusted to the new system — a practical hedge against public confusion rather than a statement of policy.
Printed domestically by the Talleres de Especies Valoradas, the state security printing works established in the early 1920s to reduce Chile's dependence on foreign printers. The P#97 series ran across several years, making precise dating by year of printing difficult without reference to signature combinations.
