Obverse description The Cuban national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicted as a shield divided into three quarters: the upper portion shows a rising sun over a sea passage flanked by mountains, the middle band bears a key symbolizing Cuba's strategic position, and the lower quarter displays a royal palm tree. The shield is surmounted by a Phrygian cap bearing a star, set upon a fasces. Flanking the shield is a wreath composed of an oak branch to the left and an olive branch to the right, bound at the base. The circular legend REPUBLICA DE CUBA arcs along the upper rim, while the denomination 500 PESOS, weight designation 5 OZ, and fineness AU 0.999 are inscribed along the lower and right portions of the field, all within a beaded border.
