Pick 273 belongs to the "monedas nacionales" series issued across the Perón and post-Perón years — a period when Argentina's money supply was expanding faster than the economy could absorb. The 500-peso denomination, once substantial, was losing purchasing power steadily through the late 1950s under Frondizi's stabilization pressures, which makes the ten-year print run less a sign of monetary stability than of bureaucratic inertia.
Printed by the Casa de la Moneda in Buenos Aires. The series was eventually absorbed into the 1969 redenomination that replaced 100 monedas nacionales with 1 peso ley.
