Obverse description Left-centre intaglio vignette of Cardinal Francisco Jiménez de Cisneros in left-facing profile bust, set within an ornate oval cartouche framed by laurel sprays and a ribbon banner inscribed with his name, surmounted by a cardinal's cross; the composition is enclosed within a richly engraved architectural border with pilasters, decorative torchères, and figural motifs at the corners. To the right, the denomination 'QUINIENTAS PESETAS' and the numeral '500' are printed in bold letterpress, with the underprint repeating 'QUINIENTAS' in pale tint across the centre. The lower portion carries a heraldic shield flanked by two rampant lions and signature line captions for El Gobernador, El Interventor, and El Cajero, all unsigned on this specimen.
