Part of Macau's long-running lunar series issued under the Monetary Authority of Macao, this 2006 piece coincides with the handover period's numismatic program — AMCM-issued collector coins became a deliberate revenue and soft-power instrument following the 1999 transfer of sovereignty from Portugal to China. The series consistently attracted mainland Chinese buyers for whom the Dog year carries particular cultural significance tied to birth-year collecting.
