Brazil's Thesouro Nacional notes of this period were printed in New York under contract with ABNC, a common arrangement for Latin American governments that lacked domestic intaglio capacity. The 5th print designation reflects the serial numbering convention used to distinguish successive authorized batches rather than any change in the plate design itself — the underlying engraving remained consistent across prints.
