Opmerkingen

The Banco Commercial e Agrícola was a Portuguese colonial institution operating in what is now Angola and Mozambique, though notes of this reference are associated with Portuguese Guinea — one of the more obscure corners of the mid-nineteenth-century Lusophone issuing world. At this date, private bank-issued paper circulated alongside Crown-authorized instruments, and the 500 Réis denomination sat at a level practical for local mercantile transactions rather than large colonial transfers.

Surviving examples from this 1858 issue are rare enough that auction appearances are infrequent. The catalog record remains thin.
