| 正面铭文 | REPÚBLICA POPULAR DE MOÇAMBIQUE QUINHENTOS METICAIS MAPUTO, 16 de JUNHO DE 1983 (Translation: People's Republic of Mozambique / Five Hundred Meticais / Maputo, 16 June 1983) |
| 背面描述 | The central vignette illustrates a pharmaceutical or scientific laboratory scene: at left, two figures in white coats work at a bench with flasks, burettes and shelving stocked with reagents; at right, a group of workers attend to industrial processing trays. A circular 'BANCO DE MOÇAMBIQUE' seal appears at upper left, and denomination numerals '500' are printed in cartouches at lower left and lower right, all in blue intaglio on a multicolour guilloche underprint. |

| 备注 |
This series spans the years when Mozambique's socialist government was fighting a war on two fronts — the RENAMO insurgency backed by apartheid South Africa and Rhodesian intelligence, and a collapsing rural economy. The Banco Popular de Desenvolvimento, which handled note issuance under the República Popular, was operating under severe foreign exchange constraints throughout the 1980s, and the 500 Meticais sat near the top of the denomination ladder at a time when real purchasing power was eroding fast.
The note was printed by the Bundesdruckerei in Berlin — East Berlin specifically, a natural partner for Mozambique's Frelimo government given Cold War alignment. That relationship shaped the print contracts for much of the 1980s series.
