The Litt. A designation marks this as the first print run of the 1986 series — Bank of Finland notes carried literal suffixes to distinguish successive print batches rather than changing the date, a practice that makes run identification straightforward but is routinely overlooked by casual collectors. Erik Bruun, responsible for the reverse, was one of Finland's most respected graphic designers, best known internationally for his wildlife poster work; his presence on Finnish currency of this period is not incidental — the Bank of Finland made deliberate choices about commissioning designers with strong reputations outside the printing trade.
The hologram security feature places this among the earlier European issues to incorporate the technology at the 500-unit level.
