A serial-number box is positioned at the top centre, with two circular official seals — one for the city and one for the district — flanking two manuscript signature lines dated 'Aachen, den 6. Aachen's municipal authorities resorted to issuing high-denomination notgeld in 1922 as hyperinflation rendered Reichsbank notes functionally useless almost as fast as they could be printed. The Stadt- und Landkreis — covering both the city and surrounding district — issued jointly, an administrative arrangement that reflected how thoroughly the crisis had overwhelmed normal institutional boundaries.
La Ruelle'sche Lithographische Anstalt was a local Aachen firm, which meant production timelines could be compressed when denominations needed to jump again within weeks.
