| Beschrijving voorzijde | The obverse is set within a decorative blue letterpress border composed of repeated geometric and scrollwork ornaments, with the denomination '500 Mark' printed in each corner. A central underprint vignette in pale ochre shows the Meuselwitz municipal coat of arms, over which the large Fraktur inscription 'Fünfhundert Mark' is printed in bold black type. The heading 'Notgeld der Stadt Meuselwitz in Thüringen' appears above, with the issue authority text, serial number 'Lit. Meuselwitz was a small lignite-mining town in Thuringia, and its municipal administration issued this 500 Mark note during the acute inflationary spiral of 1922 — before hyperinflation had fully detonated but at a point where Reichsbank notes were already failing to reach smaller communities in adequate quantities. German municipalities, corporations, and even individual businesses were legally permitted to issue this kind of Notgeld under emergency provisions, filling a genuine circulation gap rather than acting as commemorative novelties, which the earlier small-denomination Notgeld of 1918–1921 largely had been.
By late 1923 the 500 Mark denomination would become effectively worthless before it left the printer.
