500 Manat Mammetweli Kemine

Mammetweli Kemine was an 18th-century Turkmen satirical poet whose sharp, irreverent verse targeted the clergy and ruling classes — an unusual subject for state commemoration in a country that has otherwise favored monuments to its own presidents. His inclusion in this 2003 silver series reflects the early post-Soviet effort to construct a Turkmen national cultural canon distinct from Russian-imposed frameworks, selectively rehabilitating figures who could be read as proto-nationalist voices.
