Obverse description Left-facing bust of President Saparmyrat Nyyazow (Saparmurat Niyazov), first and lifelong President of Turkmenistan (1991–2006), rendered in high relief within a plain inner circle. The effigy is unadorned and depicted in civilian dress. A decorative wreath of olive branches frames the lower portion of the portrait below the inner circle. The circular legend above reads TÜRKMENISTANYŇ ILKINJI WE ÖMÜRLIK PREZIDENTI, while the name SAPARMYRAT NYÝAZOW appears in the lower field, all in Latin script.

Reverse description Central depiction of the Anau Mosque (Änew Metjidi), also known as the Mosque of Jamal al-Din, a 15th–17th century historic monument in the Ahal region of Turkmenistan, shown in three-quarter perspective with its distinctive domed structure, arched portal, and ruined ancillary walls set upon a low mound. The denomination 500 MANAT appears to the left of the mosque in the field, and the region name AHAL is inscribed above the structure. Below the mosque in the exergue are the inscriptions ÄNEW METJIDI / XV-XVII asylar / 2000. The outer legend reads TÜRKMENISTANYŇ MERKEZI BANKY and BEÝIK TARYHY MIRASLLARYMYZ separated by decorative dots, all in Latin script within a beaded border.
