| 裏面の説明 | A bold allegorical composition fills the field: a nude, elongated male figure strides dynamically atop a vintage open-wheel Formula 1 racing car rendered in fine detail at the lower portion of the coin, while simultaneously riding a rearing horse whose mane streams backward, symbolizing the fusion of ancient equestrian tradition and modern motorsport. To the right of center, the denomination L500 appears in large stylized numerals. The mint mark R and engraver's signature L. CRETARA are incused in the right field. The date 1989 appears in the lower exergue, flanked by decorative flourishes. The circumferential legend GRAN PREMIO DI SAN MARINO F1 arcs along the upper border. |

San Marino issued commemorative silver 500 Lire pieces annually through the 1980s under an arrangement with the Italian Republic that permitted the microstate to strike coins legal tender within Italy — a commercially lucrative program that generated far more revenue from collectors than from circulation. The 1989 Grand Prix issue ties to the Formula One race held on the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari circuit in Imola, which despite its name has never been located within San Marino's borders.
KM#243 shares its .835 fineness with the broader Italian bimetallic tradition rather than the .925 standard more common in contemporary European commemoratives.
